CONTINUOUS CLEANING OF A ANAEROBIC DIGESTER USING HYDROCYCLONE TECHNIQUES AT A MUNICIPAL WWTP

Summary: Through a fieldwork project with its own pilot plant, it is proposed that cyclone and vibration sifting techniques used in the aggregate industry for separation and classification, be used for the cleaning and sifting of sludge from an anaerobic digester at a WWTP, eliminating the inert accumulation phase and, thus, recovering the useable capacity of the digester after years of continued use.

With this process, there is continuous cleaning of the sludge in the digestion phase, removing accumulated inert waste which affects performance, without the need to stop the digester and subsequently carry out emptying and cleaning with the result economic and time savings and also minimizing workplace risks.
