Summary: The phenomenon of liquefaction in saturated soils with little or no cohesion is closely related with contraction processes and increases in pore pressure caused by cyclical loads (such as seismic loads).

This article introduces the theoretical approximation of the problem in a concise way, numerical evaluation, along with a summary of its practical application for the SR99 Tunnel Project (Seattle, United States).
